About the Book
Improve Your IELTS Reading Skills by Sam McCarter and Norman Whitby is a focused, skills-based preparation book from Macmillan's respected Improve Your IELTS Skills series, designed specifically for students aiming to score between bands 4.5 and 7.5 on the IELTS exam. Part of a three-book series that also covers Academic Writing and Listening & Speaking, this title zeroes in specifically on the reading module, helping students develop the language, skills, and test strategies needed to perform confidently and score higher.
The book is structured around 10 topic-based units, each combining focused exercises with a clear answer key, making it equally suitable for self-study or classroom teaching. Throughout, distinctive "technique boxes" highlight key strategies for tackling the varied task types found in the IELTS Reading paper, offering step-by-step guidance on how to approach different question formats efficiently and accurately. The book includes a range of reading passages designed to build core comprehension and skimming/scanning skills, along with a full practice test featuring exam-style questions, giving students a realistic sense of what to expect on test day. Whether used as a complete standalone reading course, combined with the other books in the series for comprehensive IELTS preparation, or used alongside another primary coursebook as supplementary practice, the book offers a systematic, well-organized approach to building genuine reading proficiency for the exam.
