Product Details

Six Thinking Hats by Edward de Bono is the classic, internationally used guide to clearer thinking and better decision-making, from the originator of lateral thinking, used by businesses and governments worldwide.

About the Book

Six Thinking Hats is Edward de Bono's classic, practical guide to making decisions and exploring new ideas, used successfully by thousands of business managers, educators, and government leaders around the world. As de Bono explains, the main difficulty of thinking is confusion: emotions, information, logic, hope, and creativity all crowd in on us at once, like juggling with too many balls. His solution is a devastatingly simple technique based on the brain's different modes of thinking, one that has since been adopted by organizations worldwide to end conflict and confusion in favor of clarity and productivity.

De Bono unscrambles the thinking process into six distinct modes, each represented by a colored "thinking hat": the White Hat, neutral and objective, focused strictly on facts and figures; the Red Hat, representing emotions and gut feelings; the Black Hat, cautious and critical, weighing risks and potential problems; the Yellow Hat, optimistic and focused on benefits; the Green Hat, dedicated to creativity and new ideas; and the Blue Hat, the calm, organizing hat that oversees and manages the thinking process as a whole. By deliberately "wearing" one hat at a time, whether alone or in a group, thinkers can focus on a single mode of thought rather than juggling all of them simultaneously, reducing confusion and ego-driven conflict while making room for genuinely balanced, creative discussion. Through case studies and real-life examples, de Bono shows how this deliberate role-playing can transform meetings, decision-making, and problem-solving, producing quicker, clearer, and more effective results.
