Tan Twan Eng is a Malaysian novelist who writes in English, born in Penang and raised in Kuala Lumpur. He worked as a barrister before becoming a full-time writer, and is best known for The Gift of Rain and The Garden of Evening Mists, both award-winning explorations of Malaysian history and identity.
