About the Book

Wings of Fire tells the deeply inspiring life story of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, one of India's most beloved presidents and a towering figure in the country's scientific history. Co-written with missile scientist and longtime pupil Arun Tiwari over nearly six years of patient collaboration, the autobiography traces Kalam's journey from his humble beginnings in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, the son of a little-educated boat owner, through his relentless pursuit of education in aeronautical engineering, to his pivotal role in developing India's guided missile and space programs.

Divided into distinct sections beginning with "Orientation," which recounts Kalam's childhood, family, and formative early education, the book follows his career at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), where his groundbreaking contributions to India's missile technology earned him the enduring title "Missile Man of India." Written with simple, heartfelt sincerity, Kalam reflects candidly on the personal and professional struggles he overcame, the mentors and values that shaped his character, and his firm belief that every person is born with the potential to make a tangible difference in the world. The narrative culminates in his reflections on serving as India's 11th President from 2002 to 2007, offering readers not just an account of extraordinary achievement, but a genuinely moving testament to the power of hard work, discipline, and dreaming without limits.
